The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) supports groundbreaking technologies from the DOE national laboratories and industry partners. Two of these partners, the Agile BioFoundry and Advanced Biofuels and Bioproducts Process Development Unit (ABPDU), are joining forces to advance biomanufacturing and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

“This is a notable partnership,” said Dr. Valerie Sarisky-Reed, Acting Director for BETO. “Individually, both the Agile BioFoundry and ABPDU are working to bring bioproducts to fruition. Together, their combined capabilities can help accelerate the progress in delivering biomanufacturing and bringing bioproducts to market.”

The Agile BioFoundry is a consortium of seven national laboratories operating as a distributed biofoundry in collaboration with industry and academia. ABPDU is a state-of-the-art facility at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) that enables the commercialization of bio-based fuels, chemicals, and materials. Berkeley Lab has supported the procurement of gas fermentation reactors that will expand the range of capabilities available to the Agile BioFoundry and ABPDU teams to meet mission priorities around decarbonization and biomanufacturing.
