iGEM Team Uses Automated Recommendation Tool in Award-Winning Project

A team from the University of Groningen used the Agile BioFoundry-supported Automated Recommendation Tool (ART) in their award-winning iGEM 2021 project aiming to reduce nitrogen emissions.

ART is a tool that leverages machine learning and probabilistic modeling techniques to guide synthetic biology in a systematic fashion, without the need for a full mechanistic understanding of the biological system.

The team won the award for best environmental project and a gold medal at the iGEM Competition, an international event that brings together multidisciplinary teams of primarily university students. The competition “gives students the opportunity to push the boundaries of synthetic biology by tackling everyday issues facing the world.”
